LAHORE: PPP leader Khalid Ahmad Kharal said on Wednesday that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was intimidating the press for his ulterior motives.  He visited The News Lahore office along with a PPP delegation and called on Editor Kamila Hyat to express complete solidarity and sympathy with The News and Daily Jang which were being harassed by the government functionaries, particularly the FIA.

The delegation lamented the FIA inspectors who conducted unwarranted raids on the offices of the Jang Group at Rawalpindi and termed it an attack by the federal government against the free press. Kharal said the government's wrong policies had destroyed the national economy and created chaos in the country. He said during the last two years of power, the government had not been able to resolve any of the national or international issue and had attempted to dominate every democratic institution. Editor of The News, Lahore, Kamila Hyat thanked the delegation for their moral support for the press freedom and right of expression. The delegation comprised PPP Deputy Secretary General, Information, Munir Ahmad Khan, Qasim Zia, Haji Azizur Rehman, Ch Munawer Anjum, Fawad Ahmad Chaudhry, Mian Khalid Saeed, Qamar Chaudhry, Saleem Mughal, Sadaqat Ali Shah, Mazhar Marghoob and Malik Maqsood.
