APNS concerned at govt-press relations

KARACHI: The APNS Executive Committee on Saturday expressed grave concern over the deteriorating government-press relations, especially the present policy of the government towards Jang Group of Publications.

According to a press release, the APNS Executive Committee has appointed an emergency delegation with full authority to meet the federal minister for information and other concerned authorities to sort out the matter with them and ease the tension between the two pillars of the state.

The delegation has been empowered by the Executive Committee to take appropriate actions in the light of the outcome of the meetings with the government authorities. The delegation comprises Hameed Haroon (Senior Vice-President), Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami, Mustafa Sadiq, Zia Shahid and Arshad Zuberi.

The meeting of the APNS Executive Committee decided matters relating to member publications and accredited agencies and took necessary decisions.

The meeting was attended by the following:

Hameed Haroon (Senior Vice President), Mir Javed Rahman (Secretary General), Dr Jabbar Khattak (Joint Secretary), Syed Shahid Hashmi (Finance Secretary), Mumtaz Tahir (Aftab Multan), Qutubuddin (Asian Medical News), Arshad Zuberi (Business Recorder), Riaz A Mansoori (Cricketer), Kazi Asad Abid (Ibrat), Javed Mehr Shamsi (Kaleem), Muhammad Aslam Kazi (Kawish), Zia Shahid (Khabrain), Aamir Mehmood (Kiran), Mushtaq Qureshi (Naey Ufaq), Maqsood H Shah (Nawa-i-Waqt), Masood Khan (Qaumi Akhbar) and Mrs Masooda Ahmed (Teenager). Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman and Sarmad Ali attended the meeting on special invitation.
