Kansi did not get a fair trial

Allauddin Keen

I have been living in the United States since 1968. I am of Pakistani origin. I have been educated in the United States and have done my major in Political Science and International Relations. I also took several courses at a law school in the US. I have been following Kansi's case very closely. I regret to say that his arrest and extradition from Pakistan was violation of the extradition treaty. The court in Fairfax county should have thrown the case out just for not giving Kansi due process of law.

Almost none of the defence objections were upheld. The defence also did not put up a proper support. I feel, as it is said in the USA, that the whole thing was a hogwash. I feel Kansi DID NOT GET A FAIR TRIAL. I read a lot after his illegal arrest in Pakistan, that his family would hire their own attorney, as they are sound financially. But surprisingly his family did not do that. Why, I do not know.

Kansi issue - disrespect to our sovereignty

Malik Safdar Rashid

I don't want to support or oppose Mr. Aimal Kansi's act for which he has been tried and sentenced in an American court. But the way the whole process of his arrest and abduction to America took place, is a shame to our country and to all the developing nations around the world.

The "new world order" which became popular during the period of the Gulf War, is coming to shape by making developing nations realise that justice means acts which suits imperialism. Aimal Kansi is being punished because the victims were Americans. But would the Americans be having similar enthusiasm in the cases where the C.I.A. and the F.B.I. were involved in the killings of citizens and political activists of other countries. Every body knows what Americans have done in Vietnam, Latin America, Libya, African continent etc. Are they prepared to hand over the perpetrators to the respective countries. As I am writing this, Pakistan government is busy pleasing the US government by a high-powered investigation team for the killers of four Americans in Karachi.

This is the same city where every day a number of people are brutally murdered. But never have we seen such efficiency as in the case of the deceased Americans. This type of behaviour is encouraging imperialism to come strongly against the sovereignty of our mother country. I beg to our leaders to stop licking the boots of their masters and save the independence of our country.

We should rethink our approach

Aamir Hanif.

Mir Aimal Kansi committed a crime and he should be punished for it. The people that he killed had families. Families that did not get a chance to say goodbye to their fathers, brothers, husbands and sons. Everyone talks about justice and equality. Everyone talks about what is
right and what is wrong. Well, now is the time to do more than just talk. Now is the time for actions. Mir Aimal Kansi committed a crime and he will be punished for it. Are we, as a nation and as a people, going to stand by and watch as more innocent people get killed? Are we going to become a part of what Mr. Kansi did? Have we forgotten that basic teaching of Islam, according to which "a father should not be held responsible for the sins of his son and a son for his father"? Will we go to the mosques, act like Muslims and then go out and deviate from what Islam teaches us because it satisfies our baser, primitive and negative feelings for revenge?
Mir Aimal Kansi will be punished for his crimes. The time now is for us to decide whether we will join him in his hell or forge a path to our heaven.

Kansi's abduction reflects our slavery

Salman Abedin

Mir Aimal Kansi is being made a scapegoat. The fact of the matter is that US agents landed in Pakistan, and kidnapped a man from our soil. If he was a culprit, why couldn't we hand him over to the US, ourselves. When we can't even conduct such an operation on our own, it is indeed a
sad state of affairs. The killing of the four Americans in Karachi, after the sentencing of Kansi, was also totally uncalled-for. When will this killing end? When will we be free again?

Kansi is a traitor!

Baqar Hasan

Aimal Kansi is a traitor. He was a CIA informer. His father was also working for CIA. They got heavily paid for giving information to Americans on Islam and Pakistan. He got disgruntled with CIA on some issue and decided to gun down couple of CIA agents.

In my view he is not a hero but a traitor.

Kansi's trial was marred by prejudice

Amir Kedwaii

Kansi is a murderer and deserves the punishment a killer does, no doubt about that. Why did it take the jury so little time in deciding his fate, while it took them a lot longer to reach a decision on Timothy McViegh? And why is it taking them so long on Terry Nicols, responsible for

killing over two hundred people, including innocent little kids, is any body's guess. But please do not say that Kansi's race and religion have nothing to do with his fate!

Kansi- A reflection of our political stand

Anonymous

We are a nation without pride and there is no doubt about it. Aimal Kansi is one of other examples...FBI comes and takes him without having any qualms that the people of this country will protest against such a move. But why shall they?

The Pakistani government is with them. We shall give special thanks to our great leadership which didn't care for the people nor for the integrity of the nation which we give reference to in creation of this land.

It has been some time now since this Kansi matter. People are saying whatever they think is right according to them without even considering the conditions in which this event took place, and without even knowing that they know too little. If a Pathan gets out in rage, it's considered perfectly normal in Afghan tribes and is normal for human nature. There are limits for everything. Why don't the people understand it's not Kansi that we are arguing about.

It's rather Pakistan we are concerned about. I feel very ashamed of my country specially when I am here in USA, about this. But I also hate my own government for the whole matter...If we had even a centimeter of pride left in our blood we would have given Aimal Kansi a death sentence in our own country courts -if in the first case death sentence was justified- and I lament over the people who belong to this beautiful piece of land? If your own blood goes wrong you don't hate it ,you do punish them even kill them but you don't hate them......

Kansi, a false hero

By Khan T L ( Tariq)

Should we thank God that it's over? I don't know. One thing I know is that by supporting Mr. Kansi in this trial, we are presenting ourselves as a nation that supports terrorists and murderers. Every time I looked at a Pakistani newspaper's internet edition, or picked up a copy of a local USA/Pakistani newspaper, I found one thing for certain: Someone directly or indirectly praising the act of Mr. Kansi and trying to present him as a hero.

Should we really be condemning the government for helping the US authorities to arrest Mr. Kansi? I don't think so. Just because he killed a Christian and not a Muslim, an American and not a Pakistani, does not mean that he is not a murderer. He was so much of a murderer that even the defence gave up on that issue and brought in a brain damage issue to save him.

And what about that news which quoted that he was having a hard time in prison, and authorities did not even provide him with enough water so that he could perform wadu and say his prayers? Come on people, give it a break!

I always thought that the journalist tribe of Pakistan was full of intellectuals and thinkers. Without any disrespect to any one, I am forced to change my opinion. We should stop making false heroes.

People like Mr. Kansi are not the representatives of Pakistan in international world. He is a murderer, a criminal. At least I don't want him to represent me anywhere in this world. Do you?

Isn't it a violation of Pakistani law?

Saqib I Hussain

I believe that the abduction of Kansi from Pakistan was a reprehensible Act, facilitated by the Pakistan government. The permission granted by the Sharif government to allow the Americans to come to Pakistan and whisk away a Pakistani national, is a clear violation of Pakistani laws. It has left many of us angered and insecure. Why don't our leaders take a principal stand when it comes to western powers?

Kansi was brutally beaten up by American agents in front of Pakistani commandos on their soil, and these shameless people allowed it to happen.

I would like to know from anyone out there as to how can this despicable violation of Pakistani laws by its own government, be justified.

Kansi deserves punishment

By Mian Mohsin Shah MD

Every way you look at it, this was a gruesome cold-blooded murder and this criminal's nationality or religion should not influence anyone's opinions of the facts. The guy should be hanged as anyone committing such an act, and the rest we'll leave to the Almighty.

And as I write, four Americans have been murdered with their Pakistani driver in Karachi. Revenge? If this is the type of behaviour our country is going to allow, unfortunately, the answer to our aggressive compaign inviting the international business community, is "the hell with you if you can't even protect our lives." Of course, the only sufferers are the poor citizens of the country, impoverished, jobless, hungry, ignorant, and hopeless.
